Tas Gas Retail implemented tariff increases for its Tasmanian customers on January 1 2023. These tariffs are set for the 2023 calendar year.
We hope this commitment to prices will provide our customers with the certainty they need, particularly through winter when energy for heating is highest.
We are aware of the government legislation being introduced to temporarily cap wholesale gas prices. TGR is supportive of downward pressure on gas prices resulting in a more affordable commodity for its customers. To ensure we can provide a reliable gas supply for our customers, contracts for 2023 have already been secured and there is no anticipated cap on contracts already in place. We will closely monitor any changes to wholesale prices and continue to secure the best deal for our customers in the future.
To ensure we can provide a secure, reliable and continuing gas supply to our Tasmanian customers, Tas Gas Retail (TGR) has long-term (12-36 months) upstream contracts in place with gas suppliers. Our long-term contracting approach has enabled TGR to secure competitive wholesale prices, and this has historically protected our customers from the volatile energy market. It also enables TGR to set pricing so that customers have price certainty and can manage their gas usage.
We understand that price increases can be challenging and should our customers experience hardship, TGR’s customer payment program provides support that goes beyond traditional payment plans. This support is confidential, free, and is designed to help our customers get back on track with their energy bills, repay overdue bills, and lower ongoing usage costs.
