Corporate Social Responsibility

At Tas Gas, we care. As Tasmanians, we act.

We know that typically when thinking of a utility provider that warm thoughts of community spirit, philanthropy and ethically-oriented practices don’t always spring to mind. Talking about natural gas is cool when talking about your flame effect fire, instantaneous hot water or your enviable kitchen appliances, but not always when sustainability comes to mind. Our customers are actively telling us that they’re interested in choosing options that are sustainable in the long term and are constantly asking what we at TasGas are doing to help. So as a company, and as Tasmanians, we want you to know that we are committed to being leaders within our industry – to guide our state, our team and our business into a more sustainable future for all.

Ethical sourcing

Tas Gas is committed to corporate social responsibility, which includes ethical sourcing that does not engage in any form of modern slavery. Tas Gas is a member of Sedex which enables us to demonstrate our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices in the management of our supply chain.

Sedex is one of the world’s leading ethical trade service providers, who work to improve working conditions in global supply chains. They provide practical tools, services and a community network to help companies improve their responsible and sustainable business practices, and source responsibly.

As a member of Sedex, we are able to provide our customers and suppliers with access to our key policies, procedures and work practices which encompass our company’s values and commitment to trading ethically. We regularly review our information held in the Sedex database to ensure currency and compliance with legislation and best practice.

Charitable Initiatives

The St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia has more than 60,000 members and volunteers, who work hard to assist people in need and combat social injustice across Australia. We are committed to working alongside Vinnies in their local endeavours here in Tasmania including fundraising for their Christmas Toy Drive, volunteering staff for Vinnies sandwich making and for their local food vans and by donating $10,000 to their recent winter appeal.

A Sustainable Commitment

Tas Gas has signed an open letter from Bioenergy Australia and the Australian Hydrogen Council, together with 51 other influential organisations – advocating for government support for the development of an Australian renewable gas market. Through decarbonising our gas supply, we would improve the sustainability of our operations long term.

If you have a community initiative you would like Tas Gas to be involved in, please reach out, we’d love to hear if we can help.
