5 easy steps to switch to natural gas

Posted on Nov 05, 2020

Switching to natural gas is a great choice to make your life easier and more comfortable. But if you’ve always had electricity, perhaps you’re unsure what the process is to make this change.

Below, we’ll walk you through the process step-by-step. It’s an easy decision and an easy transition that will benefit you and your family – read on to learn more!

1. Check if you have gas on your street

Natural gas is distributed through an underground pipeline that covers certain areas of Tasmania. Head to our pipeline locator and type in your address to see whether your street has gas available.

If not, you can get in touch with our team and register your interest – we regularly expand our pipeline to cater to demand!

2. Apply for a connection

This step is as simple as filling out a form (you can do that online here) or printing it off and posting it to us. When this application is received, our team will confirm receipt and arrange a time to inspect your property.

3. Property inspection

If you’re home for this, our team member will discuss where the gas meter will be located on your property. If you’re not around for this, no problem – we will leave a meter location diagram in your letterbox. It’s always best to be present for the site inspection so you can discuss all aspects of the installation process with your distributor.

4. Chat to your gas fitter

Alongside Tas Gas Networks who will organise your supply to our network, you will need to engage a gas fitter to install your appliances. Your gas fitter will be able to provide a quote for installing your appliances and running the gas connection from your house to the meter. At this point, you will have selected your appliances – which can be hot water, heating and gas.

5. Installation!

The next step is to install gas at your property. Tas Gas will connect your property to the pipeline as explained at the property inspection. After this, your gas fitter will finalise the process by connecting your appliances. Congratulations – you’re connected and ready to go! Sit back and enjoy the benefits of natural pipelined gas.

If you’re ready to make the switch, you know what to do!
